Biker Girl Gangs of Marrakesh - photography by Hassan Hajjaj
Possibly playing off the name of infamous motorcycle gang "Hells Angels" - Morocco born photographer Hassan Hajjaj photographed his series "Kesh Angels" as a tribute to the biker girl culture of Marrakesh.
Hassan Hajjaj artfully spices-up the traditional form of dress with colorful patterns and manages to communicate a sense of sub-culture within the confines of tradition. To further articulate cultural bipolarity, each composition is staged with western brand details like Nike, Louis Vuitton and heart-shaped sunglasses - which ads to the modern flair of "Angels" with attitude. To add colorful narrative to the composition Hassan frames pictures in ornamental imagery from cans, food packaging and legos.
"Kesh Angels" currently on View in Taymour Grahne Gallery between January 28 – March 7, 2014
